Blue Shield of California Foundation Announces $5.8 Million in Grants
Q4 giving includes additional investments in the effort to end domestic violence and improve community wellbeing
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Blue Shield of California Foundation announced today $5.8 million in grants to improve the quality of healthcare and domestic violence services for the most vulnerable Californians. This includes funding for a new partnership with the Gobee Group, LLC to uncover the shared issues and root causes that drive poor health and perpetuate domestic violence. This quarter's grantmaking brings the Foundation's total 2017 giving to more than $23.5 million.
"Meeting our goal to end domestic violence and improve health and safety in our communities requires fresh thinking from multiple perspectives," said Peter Long, PhD, president and CEO of Blue Shield of California Foundation. "We are forging relationships with new partners, and reimagining our work with our existing partners, to broaden the way that we support prevention for those most in need."
The Oakland-based Gobee Group will work with the Foundation to engage grassroots leaders, policymakers, and researchers from multiple sectors to help generate lasting solutions that improve health in low-income communities and help break the cycle of violence.
Additional fourth quarter grants include funding to expand two pilot programs initially supported by the Foundation — one that improves support systems for survivors of domestic violence and one that expands the use of electronic referral and consultation tools to streamline access to specialty care in the safety net.
Grants will also support four unique partnerships between domestic violence agencies and healthcare providers in the Los Angeles area. Originally established through a statewide program launched by the Foundation, these partners will come together as an official committee of the Los Angeles County Domestic Violence Council. With Foundation funding, these partners will be able to continue to collaborate, and the council itself will serve to encourage other health centers and domestic violence agencies to form similar cross-sector partnerships.
